Q & A with Dr. A (Seyi Adegoroye, M.D.)
Centreville Urgent Care (CUC)
10th Year Anniversary 1999-2009
- Why was CUC started? To provide high quality medical care in a pleasant friendly environment to the Northern Virginia community.
- Why has CUC lasted 10 years? We focus on our patients, taking care of their problems or referring them to someone who can.
- What changes have you noticed in healthcare in Centreville in the past decade? Patients are having increased difficulty seeing a doctor and have thus become more aware of, and comfortable with urgent medical care.
- Why don’t you accept all insurance? In order to maintain our focus on the patient, we can’t afford to be distracted by insurers who do not value their subscriber’s convenience in seeking urgent medical care. Also repeated delays and denials of claims distract us from the actual task of taking care of patients.
- Your reception room is usually empty, so how has the clinic survived? We believe that as long as we provide a service that our patients value, that we’ll be just fine. We also pride ourselves in working efficiently as we value our patients’ time
- How will the coming healthcare changes affect CUC? We don’t plan to lose any sleep about the various healthcare changes. If we continue to treat our patients as people and provide quality care, we’ll be fine. If we don’t then, we really shouldn’t be in business.
- What age bracket do you see mainly, and is the clinic more focused on adult medicine than children medicine? We see patients of all ages but strongly recommend that children continue to see their pediatrician for routine care. Interestingly enough, several of the children from the early days now drive themselves in as young women and men, one or two with their own children.
- How efficient is CUC in enabling Patients follow-up with their Primary care doctor, and how cooperative is CUC in assisting with follow-up care? Keeping primary care doctors in the loop is important, which is why we provide each patient with a discharge sheet that outlines the CUC diagnosis and treatment regimen. We also are able to fax labs and EKG’s on request. When necessary our physicians will call primary care doctors to keep them abreast of care given.
- Do you see CUC in competition with other area Urgent Cares, and do you feel threatened by the emergence of Minute-Care facilities that are beginning to spring-up in local Pharmacies? No, we don’t feel threatened by other urgent care clinics and minute clinics because we don’t really see them as competition. We feel that our mix of quality, comprehensive medical care, and friendly professional staff will always resonate with our patients. The other facilities provide a different experience.
- What qualities do you feel make CUC stand out in comparison with other facilities? The focus on the patient is key for us. For example, when a patient walks in a minute before closing time, we don’t complain about leaving late. We like to think the patient is lucky to have caught us before we closed so they don’t have to face a three hour wait in the emergency room.
- What contributions have CUC made to the local community of Centreville, and what plans do you have to continue to support the local community? We feel very fortunate to be a part of this community and are always seeking opportunities to support it. Over the past 7 years we have annually donated 10% of proceeds of our Flu Shot clinics to the Centreville Volunteer Fire Department. We also in the last couple of years have sponsored teams in the SYA Little League. Dr. A has also coached soccer in the SYA youth leagues eight years and counting.
- What is the image of CUC that you want people to remember? Our Professional Staff…..the knowledgeable, caring, empathic Physicians, the pleasant, friendly Staff, the clean, convenient, family friendly office, a dedicated, committed part of the Community.
- What would you like to say to your patients? It’s been a pleasure and a privilege taking care of so many of our friends and neighbors. We at CUC are very humbled by the trust our patients have shown in us over the past decade, many of them coming from as far away as Culpepper, Winchester and Fredericksburg and we intend to work hard every day to maintain that trust.
